Give us a little insight into your life before you came to BRABBU.
I was born in 1984, studied at the Libera Università di Bolzano and at Kingston University London where I was also a MA Assistant Teacher. From 2002 I worked as a communication designer in a British company, where I started my work as an independent product designer. My passion for product design drew me back to Portugal in 2003, where I promoted in “Industrial Design” at the ESAD in Leiria. Since 2011, I am a designer at the Menina Design Group, which includes the brands “Boca do Lobo” and “DelightFULL”. Through hard work and my continuous commitment started to get noticed, so that in the same year I became the brand manager of BRABBU and the responsible for the British market.
How do you manage to maintain brand identity as a brand manager?
We are very aware of BRABBU’s branding and what we want to achieve. That is why we reflect all decisions as to who we are and where we come from. A natural force, intense and stormy.
What is the source of inspiration in your team when you design a new product as a design manager?
BRABBU’s design pieces are a result of the collaboration of the whole team. Therefore, no single designer is mentioned in a particular design piece, but consistently “BRABBU Design Studio”. The inspiration of our team comes from many different directions. This can be an inspiration from a dream, an excursion, music or a film, a cultural documentary, or simply inspiring things that surround us in everyday life. The inspiration comes from the ideas and feelings that BRABBU wants to reflect with the design pieces. Basically, our design team is inspired by nature and the history of world cultures. In addition, we also always keep an eye on the wishes of our customers.
What does your experience say, what should be avoided in terms of creativity in order to be always open-minded?
Standing still. Perhaps we are so stormy, because we do not allow ourselves to stand still. It’s about forcing you to do it. Creativity is not always easy. Sometimes you have to be the one who forces yourself to achieve something. There is no limit in the process of creativity and not to forget about the brand identity.
It is important for a brand manager to identify with the brand? How strongly do you feel connected with BRABBU?
It is very important. And the truth is, since I’ve been BRABBU’s manager, I have adapted more BRABBU’s lifestyle than I thought before – it feels good and it works. To be stormy is very important to make a statement and make things possible. Of course there is the fact that through BRABBU I have the opportunity to travel around the world, to experience many things and to collect memories. It is an intense job for a stormy brand…
