If you just asked yourself what fire irons and lounge furniture have in common, then we have the answer for it. An interesting story awaits you – we met the company conmoto at this year’s Imm Cologne 2017.
For more than 20 years it has been the attention to detail, design, form and valuable materials that fascinates the founder of conmoto.
As is often the case, conmoto was founded out of a specific need – it lacked “beautiful” fire irons. So, at the young age of 17, the founder of the company, Johannes Wagner, was looking for designers who wanted to create upmarket design fire irons.
This is how the first fire iron set was created in collaboration with the renowned designer Peter Maly – a curved and expressive design that speaks for itself. But this was just the beginning of a long design journey. Already two years later, the young company ventured into a new sector: outdoor furniture. Designers such as Peter Maly, Sieger Design and Fried Uber helped.
Starting in 2004, ethanol fireplaces followed in collaboration with designers such as Peters Maly, Sieger Design, Carsten Gollnick and Studio Vertijet.
Even the right fireplace accessories were designed for it. The clear lines of the stoves were very well received by customers. Additionally Peter Maly developed a complete modular system out of solid wood drawers, shelves, benches as well as TV and hi-fi elements. conmoto consistently finds renowned designers and new young talents, which regularly create thought-out and beautiful designs.
The Munich designer duo Schweiger & Viererbl designed the first furniture out of HPL – a laminate, which is used because of its longevity in floors and kitchen worktops.
The RIVA series is designed for both inside and outside use and is very resistant thanks to the robust material. Conmoto was able to secure several awards.Click to tweet
After the company moved to Münster in 2011, the project business started.
With concept furniture and the cooperation of architects and designers, conmoto creates indoor and outdoor furniture for hotels, bars and companies – with a remarkable success. In 2013 they went to the capital Berlin for opening a their very own showroom and demonstrating their strength in the object business.
In 2014, conmoto presented the collections CHAIRMAN and PAD by Werner Aisslinger.
These are chairs and bar stools with seat shells made of 100% recyclable form fleece, which have an incomparable feel and the comfort of a padded shell chair.
Aisslinger also uses a crimped fleece for the shell of the “PAD-Collection”. The designed storage room shelf hybrid PAD TABLE takes aspects of modern living with smartphone and tablet in consideration. For this he also received the reddot award 2014.
In 2015 the chair MITO and the side table KARO by young designer Pascal Bosetti followed.
The gentle shapes and warmer colors are new to conmoto and draw a completely different target group. In 2017 Pascal Bosetti has successfully developed a further development of the MITO chair – the ALU MITO made of aluminum and designed for outdoor use. It is efficiently stackable, durable and light and also interesting for gastronomy.
The Mito chairs are convincing not least by their light retro character. Both chair versions, MITO and also ALU MITO, are available in many color versions. On request, even in all RAL colors.
The KARO coffee table sets further color accents and makes it possible to create an uncomplicated and individual storage space. Additional inlays made of felt and cork as well as accessories complement the functionally attractive module system. (Indoor use only). We like the geometric forms of the rhombus, the triangle and the hexagon – which are the current trend forms as well as the many available colors of the table. The collaboration with Bosetti is so successful that he designs the first system couch for conmoto in 2016.
MOLIS is the expression of a symbiosis of practical modularity and gentle-organic shaping. Numerous design possibilities can be realized: from the small two-seater to the large corner set.
At Imm Cologne conmoto also presented new products by designer Carsten Gollnick.
The STAIRS enable the staging of individual groups with matching cushions and the TICINO plant containers make the terrace and garden more pretty by inserting plants or serving as a room separator. The TICINO buffet allows you to prepare meals and drinks in your own garden and serves as an outdoor kitchen. Inserts for cutting board and ice for cooling beverages can be optionally integrated. This allows the outdoor area to be used individually and at will.
Conmoto’s success is the consistent collaboration with designers who have a sense of form and function. Since the company’s focus has been on the project business for some years, it is not surprising that conmoto strived for and worked with renowned fashion designers. For over 3 years, they have been the exclusive partner of the Michalsky StyleNite, which takes place at the Berlin Fashion Week. And it is also the project business that conmoto takes more and more for itself. Whether it is a hotel, an image bar, a vinotheque, a counter or a DJ Pulte – conmoto offers customized solutions and can look back on many years of experience with modular systems and a unique know-how.
But this is not enough, comoto follows the principle: “Who has a lot can share, who is strong, can support weaker ones. If you’re good, you can make it better for others.”(Roman Herzog). In cooperation with the new brand ambassador Christoph Metzelder, conmoto will be able to offer a concept of social shopping in the future: 0.5% of the company’s own sales go to the Christoph Metzelder Foundation. Customers can also donate their conmoto furniture when buying. Social responsibility as a self-evident pillar of a company.
We look forward to further design classics such as the MITO chair or the KARO table and hope that conmoto will continue to surprise us with innovative and stylish designs in the future.
