Temahome is a label from Portugal that produces high quality and functional furniture, characterized by Scandinavian design.
When we met Temahome we were fascinated by the simplicity of the designs. The harmonious appearance of the combined pieces, the variations and combinations of different surfaces and the high-quality workmanship are convincing. There is a focus on practical furniture, shelves, cabinets and sideboards. But also dining tables, chairs and secretaries are in the portfolio of the Portuguese furniture company.
Some of the new pieces, presented in 2017, were thought-out secretaries, which are currently establishing themselves as a new “integrated office” in the multifunctional living space.
For example, the desk “Aura”, in which all kinds of writing utensils, paper, laptop or tablet can be stored. The charging cable disappears to the rear almost invisible. If you want it more “tangible”, choose the “Xira” table, which also offers storage space with its top shelf – but more accessible. The “Loft” table with its retro design is also a highlight in the new collection. Slots in the table ensure that the cellphone or tablet “stand”. A carefully integrated and slightly recessed edge on the back clears with cable warp, there is even the possibility to “clean up” along the table.
The label is based in the Portuguese city of Tomar, which is the city where the Templars built Convento de Cristo, a convent that also belongs to the world cultural heritage.
Surrounded by this historic city and the beauty of its surroundings, Temahome has been successfully building furniture for modern living and multifunctional spaces for three decades.
Founded as a Norwegian-Portuguese joint venture in 1971, the furniture is immediately recognizable – Scandinavian design flows into high-quality workmanship and attention to detail in the manufactory. The combination of fully automated production processes, specialized and passionate craftsmanship and a permanent quality control are just some of the success factors of Temahome.
The team now has around 180 employees in a 17,000m² production facility within the city limits of Tomar. The company puts particular importance to the integration of employees in the overall process. This ensures that everyone is doing his best and is working with the products with pleasure and passion.
From time to time, guest designers also support the in-house design team in their work. This contributes to the fact that the products and possibilities can always be viewed and evaluated from an external point of view, and in some cases establish completely new approaches for Temahome.
A guiding principle for Temahome is: stay true to your roots and still try to offer better solutions for the customer.Click to tweet
This passion is also felt when looking at the furniture. In the new collection we noticed the play with geometric figures. Rhombus, hexagonal, square, circle or trapezium: in various designs the forms were picked up and refined. Only a few examples are: the trapezoidal metal frame in the “Opal” side table series, the rhombic (arrow) pattern on the table series “Arrow” or the linear look of the “Bounce” shelf, which especially stands out in front of plain colored walls.
A special highlight for us were the new low sideboards.
They convinced by Scandinavian design and a flawless implementation. “Dann Dots” a bright wood colored sideboard with perforated doors in white and anthracite, or the counterpart “Dann Stripes”, which has narrow slots in the doors instead of the holes. The sideboard “Brigitte” shows up in a really successful design. Also in light oak wood it is characterized by white front doors with a milled diamond pattern. The folding doors can be folded aside.
The new collection also contains a lot of pieces with the trendy marble material: the sideboard “Lyon”, the bed table “Domi” or the “Dusk” and “Utile” dining tables.
The distribution of the articles takes place both through wholesalers, as well as through e-commerce and contract partners. Temahome delivers to more than 40 countries worldwide. Temahome regularly receives prizes for its designs, e. g. in 2000 and 2002: Portugal’s best small and medium-sized company prize, or the Mobis Prize for the best brand of contemporary furniture for the third time in 2015.
We were impressed by the designs and the clean processing of the furniture, as well as the consideration of the models from a functional point of view. It does not always take an electronic component in the furniture to make it functional. Functional also means ergonomic, thought-through or practical. And these attributes were found in many of the presented novelties at this year’s Imm Cologne 2017. What do you particularly like about the furniture designs by Temahome?
